My Dream Home

My dream home is not a mansion. Over the past 25 years I’ve built and rehabilitated many single-family residences. As a child and teenager I thought that enormous Mansion type houses were the way to go. By the time I was in my twenties I realized that these types of homes were more than just a little bit impractical. However, who doesn’t want to be rich and have a huge house fit for a king or a queen, or in our culture a high paid athlete! As my career on Wall Street took us I was able to design and build several very large homes and I did very much enjoy living in these houses. However, not that I am in my 40s I have a different view on what my “dream home” really is.
I would rather have several small houses scattered around this wonderful country or maybe even the wonderful world rather than one large home. As a result, about 5 years ago I started researching container homes and tiny homes and I have become fascinated with the variations in design. He’s homes are often more like a work of art than the typical cookie cutter house in the suburbs. So, finally I am doing something about it and I have started a fledgling business with my good friend and long time construction industry veteran Michael Riley. We are going to build some of the most beautiful and high-tech container homes that the world has ever seen.
Our homes will be different for a number of reasons. First, these homes will be built totally off grid. This means that they will not need to be tied to the electricity grid even if they are built in the middle of the city. We are going to accomplish this by installing extensive solar panels and wind turbines on each house that will power a block of lithium ion batteries. This type of energy system is wonderful because a house can literally be free from utility bills forever. There is of course some cost associated with maintaining solar panels, large batteries, and residential wind turbines. The cost of the the installation of these features can be built into the mortgage of a property when it is built. This makes the cost much more manageable for homeowners. In addition to these energy systems, we are going to take advantage of high-tech insulation, windows, and building techniques which take advantage of passive solar and green space.
